Wal-Mart Part 2 --- Unions

We've talked about the formation of unions in class so that workers can use collective bargaining to get higher wages, increased benefits, and better working conditions. If the union doesn't succeed the next step is usually to strike. But how are unions seen by the bosses? Do robber barons want their workers to join unions? Do big business even care about unions in your lifetime today?

Below is a video clip from that explains what Wal-Mart does to its workers that are trying to form unions. Watch it and then read the question below.

QUESTION:

How were these Wal-Mart workers treated when they wanted to form a union. What happened to them at work? What happened at the store that was trying to be unionized? How does this connect to the events happening in the Gilded Age in the 1800s?

according to ex employees from Walt Mart, they were followed everywhere, they had like a speech about unions, the managers were lying about unions trying to confuse the employees.Thats why Walt Mart employees think that UNION is like a curse word but they are just scared to get fire like in the gilded age that people who used to work in factories were tired of working and they knew that they were being abused by their bosses but they were scared. finally Walt Mart's employees went on strikes along with union and now they get vacation and is a little bit better but is like before according to a news report most of Walt Mart's employees are illegal immigrants who are being thread of going back to their country if they don't do what they tell them to

KARINA 8TH PERIOD
I THINK ITS INJUST HOW WALMART WOULD EXPECT ALOT FROM THESE EMPLOYEES, THEY'D GET PAID SO LITTLE AND THEY DON'T GET GOOD HEALTH BENIFITS. A GOOD EXAMPLE IS JOSH NOBLE. ITS SURPRISING HOW ALOT OF THEM WERE FOLLOWED WHEREVER THEY WENT AND HOW THEY DID ILLEGAL SURVEILLANCE. ALOT OF THESE EXAMPLES ARE SIMILIAR EVENTS THAT HAPPENED IN THE GUIDED AGE AND I THINK THAT THIS CONNECTS ALOT TO THE GILDED AGE.

this remindes me of the same thing that strikers were goin through in the late 1800 early 1900...the guiled age....everything seems good on the outside but underneath it it's a whole different ball game. Wal-Mart workers were goin through the same thing as rockefeller and Carnegie companies...

The employers were fallowed wherever they went when they wanted to form a union, and they put cameras in all working places, so that the other employers would know who were the ones in the union. The other employers were afraid of even talking to the people in the union because they thought they might get fired. The workers that were in the union were scared of even going on break because they thought they were going to be jumped or get hurt. At the end the employers went on strikes and now they get vacations, but this doesn't really help much because most of them are illegal immigrants and they were threaten of being sent back to their native country. This reminds me of the strike in the video clip we saw in class.

Now that i have actually watched the video, i think it's amazing how these individuals were followed. I concluded that just like in the "Gilded Age" robber barons in walt mart were trying to abuse their employees, similar to how early robber barons in the 1800s were doing, too. I am surprised how things like this are still going on knowing that it can conclude to violence just like it did in the 1800s.

they treated their employee like they were crimnals , like they have commeted a crime. they were being harssed and being followed and they would recived phone calls. they even went to they extreme and done illegal things. they also brain wash paople , come out with commerical against the unions say how bad a union could be,

i feel that wal mart is truly evil after watching this video. i also believe that wal mart is being run by greedy white men, this have a lot to do with the giled age because that shows how their still people in the world like rocafella and andrew.
GREDDY PEOPLE

the walmart workers were treated bad and they were being watched and they were trying to form a union. At work they were being watched my the bosses and they had them take the same break together i guess to watch them and not let them talk about the union. finally they formed a union and went on strike and this is just like the gilded age in the 1800's because they didn't let them talk about unions or how they were being mistreated so that they would form a union...♫

Walmart is just bullshit. These workers don't deserve to be treated like crap for a low pay.The reason why you wont see any difference between now and then "Gilded Age" is because their isn't any.People are still treated like crap.

WALMART is EVIL it should just burn. For these people who think walmart is good ....they don't know anything.Walmart is like family..cough cough..no fucking way.
