Wal-Mart Part 1---The Low Cost of Power

You remember this cartoon right? It portrays the monopolies and trusts and their relationship to the US senate. The general idea was that these trusts can but the senate and therefore have laws written for them which would increase their profits and get them more power.

What about big business today? Follow the link below and read a bit about how Wal-Mart spends its money.

Wal-Mart in Washington

QUESTION:
What is Wal-Mart buying with its profits? How is this similar to what was happening with Rockefeller's Standard Oil Trust or Carnegie's US Steel in the late 1800s?

KARINA 8TH PERIOD
EVERYTIME I SEE THIS PICTURE IT SHOWS ME POWER... IN MY POINT OF VIEW I WOULDN'T BE SUPRISED THAT WALMART GAVE MONEY TO THE PERSIDENT AND REPUBLICANS. I THINK THAT ROSELIND ASKED A REALLY GOOD QUESTION ABOUT MONOPOLIES. I THINK ITS JUST HIDDEN.

Ok so wal-mart was giving money to the president to republicans and the president and not paying there workers enough money..intresting its pretty messed up so how come the employees did not just quit the job or something. The picture shows the importance of trust and monoploies.

It's similar because, wal-mart almost had a monopoly like Rockefeller & Cornegie, they're also very corrupted because they helped bush win the elections & bought some of the senates.

In my opinion, i feel that Walt Mart somehow thought that workers would never bond together for their employees' rights. Now, why would they go out and give their money to the government when in any moment they would have a request from their employees to have a raise and other things in addition.

walmart was buying more things for its customer and not raising the workers pay money and they were buying lobbyist this is similar to rockerfeller's standard oil trust and carnagies US steel in the 1800's because they had so much money that they started to buy laws to protect their companies too just like walmart to make more money.
